Our Vision

There is something that feels fundamentally uplifting about people helping people through some of the more challenging events in life.  It is so good to know that there are other people rooting for you, who may have shared a similar experience or can offer support to help deal with a problem.  It is the idea of people helping each other to live the second half of their lives that underpins this website and our wider vision of what a mutual should be about.

Over the years, the mutual movement in Great Britain has evolved. In the early years, Victorian pioneers established innovative self-help groups who were seeking to support communities build houses, or provide for families in times of hardship. Latterly, while many mutuals share these early values, their relationship with customers has become more transactional in nature.

It is the idea of people helping each other to live the second half of their lives that underpins this website and our wider vision of what a mutual should be about.

We believe that modern digital communications provide a unique opportunity to re-establish the mutual sector as genuine self-help communities, who mutually and collectively find an organisation to meet a common goal but also have a relationship with each other, sharing ideas, providing support and encouragement.

We hope that the Engage Mutual community can grow to become a force to be reckoned with, a force for good and source of comfort, confidence and encouragement for those involved.

But it can only work if people get involved, open up with their ideas and stories and most of all, make it their community.

If you are reading this, hopefully there is something about the vision of a customer community business that you find attractive or, at least, appealing.  So, please, please get involved.

Share your thoughts and experiences about the challenges we all face in the second half of our lives, make use of the resources and solutions available and let us know how we can continue to develop this community together.

The purpose of this website and the wider Engage Mutual community is solely to support those people who get involved in it.  It is your community, your website, for your benefit.
